Hmm. Interesting. We are in our sixties and bought a house three years ago. Yes, lots of stuff to take care of but the previous owners were good and careful people who took care of things. So far, touch wood, this is a pretty low maintenance house. The joy of a house is no people above below and on the other side of our walls. No crazy parties going on no wretched useless HOA whose monthly fees ticked up every year though they seemed to do less and less. Condo ownership for me, was a nightmare. Apartment life not much better. The last apartment we rented in Marina Del Rey CA was $3275 a month!! That was ten years ago!!!
No idea where we will end up but so far, small house in a quiet neighborhood with easy climate (SC) - no snow to shovel, not much rain- seems to me to be as good as it gets.
